‘Pure cruelty’ as five-week-old kittens ‘killed and used as food source’

An animal charity has described the “pure cruelty” towards cats in a Cornish home after kittens were neglected and killed to be used as a food source. Clay County Cat Care, based in St Austell, said it attended an emergency at a house where cats had been left for weeks with no food or water and no heating or power.

It added that four cats had already died and six five-week-old kittens had been killed and used as a food source for the older cats. A further two cats had also been removed by the RSPCA.

In a post shared on Facebook, the charity said it managed to rescue four cats from the property – Sully, Mikey, Alabama and Aurora. The post said: “They were living in there own excrement and we were shown videos of the condition of the property, these cats have urine burns on their legs and paws for having to lay in their own mess.

“And as you have already guessed these poor babies were just being used as money makers. It makes me sick that these poor cats and the ones that sadly didn’t make it have been left to suffer in such a cruel and horrific way, they are now safe with us and will be getting the vet care and treatment they require.”

In a follow up post on December 31, Clay County Cat Care said Sully, Mikey, Alabama and Aurora were found to have a variety of health issues, including being underweight, signs of cat flu and some with slight heart murmurs. All four will now remain in isolation until they have recovered and will be booked in for neutering.

The charity said these cats are not available for adoption as they need “a lot of treatment and love to get back to being healthy and well cats”.
