The probe into an alleged attack at the home of John Henry Sayers is today continuing as 64 suspects remain under investigation.
Sayers was at home, in Byker, Newcastle, with his children when the terrifying disturbance happened, on June 16, 2022.
A video circulated on WhatsApp showing two black cars pull up outside the property, on the Fossway in Byker, Newcastle, before at least four men jumped out carrying what appeared to be baseball bats. They smashed windows at Sayers’ home and attacked cars outside, while shouting and swearing. Other footage showed a vehicle being driven directly at Sayers, who escaped serious injury by jumping out of the way onto a parked car.
Sayers, now 61, did not call police himself, but it is understood officers were quickly on the scene and a huge investigation was launched.
Police have since made numerous arrests and last summer 65 suspects remained on police bail. Now the Chronicle can reveal that one of those held, a man, has been told he will face no further action. Meanwhile the remaining 64 have been released under investigation.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “An investigation was launched following a large-scale disturbance at an address on Fossway, in the Byker area of Newcastle, on June 16, 2022.
“Since then, a total of 65 people have either been arrested or interviewed under caution in relation to the incident. Of those, 64 people remain under investigation and one person has been told they will face no further action. The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact police.”
Sayers and his brothers, Stephen and Michael, earned a reputation as Tyneside’s most notorious hardmen in the 1990s. But they later pledged to put their pasts behind them.
Anyone with information about the alleged attack is asked to contact Northumbria Police quoting reference number NP-20220616-0780.”
