Prince Harry's former ghostwriter makes a surprising claim about the royal

Prince Harry’s former ghostwriter has opened up about what it was like working with the royal, and made a surprising revelation.

Author Mark McCrum was tasked with writing Harry’s foreword for his 2011 book – and he has admitted he has no idea whether the Duke ever read the finished product. Walking with the Wounded tells the story of four wounded soldiers trekking the North Pole with Harry’s name appearing prominently on the cover.

However, McCrum has revealed that he had never actually met the prince as he opened up about how he came to write the piece.

He told the Mail: “When I ghost-wrote for Prince Harry on the bestselling book Walking With The Wounded, about four wounded soldiers who trekked across the ice to the North Pole, I didn’t meet him.”

The author said that Harry was in Tromsø, Norway, on route to join the soldiers mentioned in the book and while they didn’t meet in person, he was sent a video of the Prince.

Mr McCrum explained: “In the end I was sent a video of him out on the ice, enthusing about the beauty of the landscape and the bravery of his companions. For 15 minutes, Harry trekked across the ice grinning a lot in full polar kit. It was recorded just for me but hardly illuminating. The word ‘amazing’ featured a lot, I remember.”

McCrum further said that he had “no idea” whether the royal ever read the finished product. He then drew a comparison to J.R. Moehringer, who wrote Harry’s tell-all memoir, Spare.

“This was worked up into a thoughtful chapter, which then had to get copy approval from Clarence House. Whether Harry read it himself, I have no idea,” he said. “J.R. Moehringer, who said he was ‘exasperated’ ghost-writing Harry’s memoir Spare, clearly had a tougher challenge and a longer struggle.”

It’s now been two years since Prince Harry sent shockwaves around the world with his jaw-dropping memoir.

The bombshell book saw the Duke accuse brother Prince William of pushing him into a dog bowl in a row over Meghan Markle , claim that King Charles was jealous of William and Kate and say his father refused to allow Meghan to join the royals in Scotland as the late Queen was dying.

However, many of his claims have since been called into question with readers noting that previous serious allegations made by Harry and Meghan against the royal family were ignored completely in the memoir. Spare also seemed to contradict statements previously made by the Sussexes – from details of their first date to their ‘secret wedding’.

A paperback version of the memoir was released in October, however, no further updates or extra chapters were included.
