Popular ice cream and waffle eatery in Leigh shuts after six years

A popular ice cream and bubble waffle eatery in Leigh-on-Sea has sadly closed its doors to customers. Ru’s Bubble Waffles in Leigh Road has been a hit with families and residents, offering a mix of bubble waffles, sundaes, ice cream and drinks.

But now, owner Ru Hudson has made the difficult decision to shut down his small business. Ru’s – which has been a mainstay on the street for six years – had its last day open to customers yesterday (January 12).

He posted an emotional video on Facebook explaining why the store is closing. Ru said: With a heavy heart, I shall be closing Ru’s. its not been giving me what I need to be giving, I’m not making a living, I haven’t got any time off from it – it has come to the right time to close it down.”

Ru said on the caption of the post: “Thank you all so much for everything, it really has been such an incredible journey and it has been such a blessing to have been a part of all of your lives. Sadly these things happen and businesses come and go but I just couldn’t keep going and it’s the right time to come away from it.

You have all been so amazing to me over the years and allowed me to fulfil a dream of owning a business. I have made so many friends from Ru’s, met so many amazing people and I hope that me being a part of yours and the times you’ve had at Ru’s has made it somewhat better in these trying times.”
