Popular Greater Manchester restaurant to give away 100 free lunches next week

After a festive period full of eating and drinking, the thought of tucking into food might seem a little daunting, but providing some incentive this January is a much-loved Manchester street food spot.

The team at Bundobust, an Indian dining concept specialising in vegetarian dishes and craft beer, will be giving out free lunches next week to welcome in the New Year. On Monday (January 6), each of Bundobust’s venues will be giving away its Lunch Express to the first 100 customers who visit.

Bundobust currently has four restaurants after first establishing itself in the city of Leeds. As well as two locations in Manchester – Piccadilly Gardens and Oxford Road – and they also have a site on Bold Street in Liverpool.

The team have added that the Lunch Express offer cannot be exchanged or switched for other dishes. Drinks and other dishes can be purchased separately, and the offer is valid on Monday, 6 January only.

Typically, the Express Lunch menu costs £10.50 for two dishes and is available weekdays, 12-4pm. To coincide with the January offer, the team at Bundobust will also be launching two lunch-time only dishes.

The lunch menu is broken down into two columns with customers typically picking one dish from each column. Dishes across the menu include Mung Bean Chatpata – a super salad with sprouting mung beans, toasted corn, edamame, cucumber, apple and spinach with a chilli Massala dressing.

The menu also boasts a North England and India mash-up in the form of Raghda pethis, a type of potato cake with spiced mushy peas, sev, tomato, onion and tamarind chutney. Diners can also tuck into Tarka Dahl & Rice, Besan Cheela – chickpea and lentil-flour crepe filled with a spicy vegetable masala – and Egg Bhurji, a mixture of cumin and green chilli-spiced scrambled eggs with green peas and coriander.

Classics including the ultimate bar snack of Okra Fries, as well as crispy onion, kale and broccoli bhajis and the Bundo Chaat – layers of samosa pastry, chickpea, potato onion, sev and chilli sauce – also feature on the Express menu.

Bundobust was founded just over ten years ago by friends Mayur Patel and Marko Husak. The restaurant is famed for its Gujarati street food, served in compostable paper tubs and plates, and its selection of craft beers including its own and collaborations with breweries.

It’s first Manchester site opened in 2016, while its second, a brewery, housed in an old car park in the Grade II-listed St James Building, opened in 2021 after being delayed by the pandemic.
