Popular energy drinks security tagged in east Bristol supermarket

A retailer in east Bristol has security tagged two popular brands of energy drink. The Sainsbury’s Local on Fishponds Road has tagged cans of Red Bull and Monster.

Security tags were put onto the majority of energy drinks across the two shelves which stocked energy drinks. It is understood that no other drinks were tagged.

When approached for comment, Sainsbury’s told Bristol Live that decisions to security tag products are based on a range of factors, but did not specify which factors had affected the tagging of energy drinks at the Fishponds branch.

Sainsbury’s added that security measures are regularly reviewed and that energy drinks have been tagged in many of the stores over the last few months.

It follows that of Tesco, who in August put security tags on cans of Red Bull. The Victoria Street store, near the city centre, put the tags on for additional protection.

Other products have been tagged in retailers which had generated some confusion amongst the public, including several chocolate bars being tagged at the Range in Avonmeads Retail Park. Six much-loved bars of chocolate were wrapped in a tag in September.
