A teenager has been released without charge and another has been released on police bail after a fatal stabbing in Ilkeston. Noah Smedley, 18, was named by friends after he was fatally stabbed in Rose Avenue on Saturday (December 28) evening.
Seven people were arrested, including four 17-year-old boys, on suspicion of murder. A 52-year-old man and two 16-year-old girls, as well as one of the 17-year-old boys, were all arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with the investigation.
Now, police say a 16-year-old girl has been released without charge and another girl, also 16, has been released on police bail, pending further enquiries. Officers confirmed that the remainder of those arrested remain in custody, with an extension being granted until late on New Year’s Eve (Tuesday, December 31).
Several friends have shared Derbyshire Police’s appeals for information on the stabbing along with their own tributes to Noah. One friend wrote on Facebook: “Fly high – gone way too soon. Loved and missed by everyone. My heart goes out to your family. RIP Noah Smedley.”

Floral tributes have since been left in Rose Avenue in honour of the young man.
Detective Chief Inspector Claudia Musson from the East Midlands Special Operation Unit, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are in the very early stages of the investigation and we are treating it as an isolated incident. We are keen for anyone with information to contact us as a matter of urgency to assist with the inquiry into the death of this young man.”
