Police issue update after early hours street brawl

The “altercation” is believed to have involved five people

Police have issued an update after a street brawl in the early hours. Merseyside Police were called to Normanton Avenue in Aigburth at around 3.30am on Monday, January 13.

It followed a report of an “altercation” involving around five people. A spokesperson of the force said two people, a woman and a man, were being treated in hospital for injuries. Police previously described the injuries as “serious”, however a spokesperson for the force confirmed today there were “no serious injuries”.

A 17-year-old boy and 36-year-old man from Aigburth were previously arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault. However in a further update today, the two arrested have been conditionally bailed.

Following the incident, a cordon was in place at both ends of the road and forensic officers could be seen working inside the taped off area gathering evidence. Detective Inspector Mike Fletcher said: “Although two arrests have been made, I would urge anyone who was in the vicinity who witnessed the incident to please contact us – as you may have vital information that could help with our enquiries.”
