Occasionally the courts can throw in the surprise crime case and this week was one of them.
Amongst the grown-ups who were caught with drugs, speeding, failing to comply with court orders, was a young teen nabbed driving a car along Albert Road. Due to his age he cannot be identified for legal reasons, but we felt it was worth highlighting that police and the courts have to deal with a wide range of offences, and offenders.
Although it may be argued that another surprise was how a man who caused damage to four windows of a city pub was ordered to pay compensation of just £100, a sum unlikely to pay for the call out of the glazier, let alone the glass, putty and VAT.
By comparison, a man who stole a £22 hat from a store was ordered to pay compensation of £22 and handed a suspended jail sentence.
