Miron Muslic has signed a three-and-a-half year deal to take the reins as Plymouth Argyle’s new head coach. The 42 year old will be present at the Emirates FA Cup third round match against Brentford tomorrow, alongside Simon Hallett, the Pilgrims’ owner and chairman. Most Plymouth Live readers are cautiously optimistic about the upcoming season.
Kevin Nancekivell, the first team coach, will be part of Muslic’s coaching staff, with more details about his team to be announced later. Steven Schumacher, who led Argyle to the League One title in 2022/23 with an impressive 101 points before moving to Stoke City in December 2023, was also considered for the Home Park position, but the club chose Muslic, known for his work with Belgian Pro League side Cercle Brugge.
His debut as the Pilgrims’ coach will be the Championship match against Oxford United at Home Park next Tuesday. In a statement released by the club on Friday night, Hallett said: “Miron had a clear vision of how he wanted to take Argyle forward and showed a depth of tactical awareness that made it clear exactly how he wanted the team to set up and play.”
The club also stated: “Muslic beat off competition from several high calibre candidates to become Argyle’s number one choice with the board.”
Argyle have been without a head coach since Wayne Rooney departed on New Year’s Eve, leaving the team languishing at the bottom of the Championship with just four victories from 23 matches.

Commenter Mikehh45 says: “He’s very experienced in a League similar to the Championship and I wish him all the very best, he will have one heck of a fight to keep us in this league. But if he fails it will not be his fault as the damage has already been done. Let’s start to look to the future on a positive note.”
Bamboozledbyitall thinks: “All football managers are at the mercy of the quality of the strongest team available on match days. The best tactical plan is only as effective as the individual performances by the selected players.
“Once the match is underway, missed open goals and penalties, own goals and conceded penalties plus red cards and injuries are instances which the manager has no control over whatsoever. The supporters need to stand back and wait and see if there’s been any progress after say 10 matches. If Argyle do get relegated, it might give an indication that a quick return could be on the cards.”
GrumpyGit2020 adds: “Rocked up at the last minute and became the outstanding candidate, I hope for Hallett’s sake this works out or it’ll be back to 11k attendances in L1, I don’t think the fans could be so forgiving 3rd time around. Good luck.”
Viccanada is optimistic: “Welcome to Argyle! It’s as much a risk for him as it is for Argyle. Let’s see what he brings to the table before we question him. It’s a new direction and new outlook for 2025.”

Milton_Mickey believes: “The facts are staring us all in the face but many are too blind to see. Foreign coaches are streets ahead of their English counterparts. As in so many walks of life they’ve caught up with us, learnt quickly and left us trailing in their wake. Now PAFC has finally realised this and taken the bull by the horns. Mr Hallett and his colleagues in management are to be congratulated and backed to the hilt.”
Montybulldog agrees: “Totally agree, what sort of fan are you, if you don’t back a new manager from the start? Excited to see how we do under a foreign manager. Welcome Miron ” the Miracle’ Muslic.”
Geoffsweet says: “Don’t suppose many head coaches have begun with five out of the next seven games at home. Miron has no choice but to make the most of this sequence from the word go and I wish him the best of luck.”
Bobbybiscuit is worried: “Not impressed – not much managerial experience. I think it is a mistake.”
WTJanner agrees: “This has mistake, relegation and costly written all over it come May. I despair with this club at times I really do.”
PL7er adds: “This isn’t the manager you want going into a relegation battle, it’s a big gamble. Home Park will turn very toxic if he doesn’t hit the ground running and pick up points soon.”
Green Oldie replies: “For the record Miron Muslic has managed 101 matches and won 42 of them. His record is over 42 percent, that is not bad! Stop with the negative comments, Hallett has a good business acumen and has put an awful lot into Argyle. We lesser mortals only pay at the gate so give it a rest and give the man a chance, he has my backing.”
