Plans have been drawn up for demolition of an existing cafe and replacement with a new restaurant and bar on a south Essex seafront.
The proposals are for the replacement of The Welcome Hut, in Western Esplanade on Canvey Island. Plans are to build a new restaurant and bar called The Wave, with a curved and wave-like design for the building.
Bosses behind the plans state the current building “does not have an attractive design and has no architectural merit.” They also say the new business “would be an asset to the seafront and nature of Canvey Island.”

The application form states it would create two new jobs for the area, with the number going from three to five. The plans also show there would be nine tables and seating for 36, as well as a bar with seating, toilets, an office area and kitchen area.

The plans state: “The site is currently situated to the south side of Western Esplanade opposite the junction with Beachway. It currently contains a single-story building that is used as a café. This existing café does not have an attractive design and has no architectural merit. The proposal is to demolish this café and construct a new replacement café.
“The proposal will be larger in size but will be a more attractive, stylish building, creating a focal point. This building would be an asset to the seafront and nature of Canvey Island. It is proposed to have a curved roof and white render with cladding.
“There is a car park adjacent to the building therefore parking will not be an issue. It is also proposed to have suitable hedge planting around the site to create a pleasing landscaped area.”
