Person stuck in railing sparks 999 drama in Stockton as firefighters work to cut them free

A person became stuck in a railing in Stockton sparking a 999 drama.

Firefighters, police and ambulance crews were called to the corner of Durham Road bypass and Norton Road, in Stockton, just after 11pm on Saturday night. The road was closed from Norton Road while firefighters used a grinder tool to cut the railing, from which sparks could be seen.

The trapped person was lying on the floor covered in blankets as emergency services worked to free them. It is believed to have been their leg that was trapped.

Once freed, the person was placed into a wairting ambulance and taken to the University Hospital of North Tees.

A Cleveland Fire Brigade spokeswoman said: “The time of call was 11.03pm. We sent one appliance from our Stockton station. We extricated one individual from a railing. We came away at 11.31pm.”

And a spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “A double crewed ambulance came across an injured person near to the A177, Stockton, shortly before 11pm last night. A second double crewed ambulance was dispatched and the patient was taken to North Tees Hospital.
