A UK staycation operator is calling on avid travellers in Wales to apply for a dream role. The job involves exploring some of the country’s most popular weekend destinations for free.
Sykes Holiday Cottages is looking for its first-ever “UK Short Break Tester”. The winning candidate will get four two-night stays, each with bespoke itineraries, plus a Sykes holiday voucher to go wherever they like. Sykes reckons the total value of what’s on offer exceeds £7,000.
All the “tester” needs to do in return is report back to Sykes on their experiences. The Chester-based company hopes the role will inspire more people to discover more holiday destinations in the UK.
James Shaw, managing director, said it was an “unmissable opportunity” for someone to explore what Britain has to offer, whether it’s a scenic retreat on the Llŷn Peninsula or a cultural escape in an historic city. “It’s the perfect way to showcase how magical and fulfilling UK breaks can be,” he said. “Whether it’s for relaxation, sightseeing, or celebrating life’s special moments.”
To be considered, applicants must submit a 200-word cover letter via the Sykes website detailing why they deserve the role. Applications open from now until February 17, 2025. Entrants must be aged 18 years or over, and the winner will be selected at random from valid entries.

In a survey of 2,000 people commissioned by Sykes, York was found to be the top place for a weekend break in the UK. Edinburgh and Bath followed closely behind, with the Isle of Skye and Brighton completing the top five.
