Penneys selling ‘Ryanair rule beating expandable bag’ for cabin baggage

Frequent fliers on Ryanair know all too well how they can get caught out on baggage allowance – but a new product being sold at Penneys has been touted as the answer to their prayers.

An ‘expandable’ bag has been labelled a ‘lifehack’ for those who regularly take a carry-on for their flight but have faced paying a heavy price for their bag being too big.

In a recent video on Tiktok, one social media user advised people to ‘run’ to Penneys and purchase an extendable cabin bag that ticks off all the Ryanair size requirements.

The caption read: “Expandable lifehack for those on a budget.”

Indeed, the ‘Expandable Weekender Bag’ promises to be small enough for short trips but big enough to carry all the essentials for wherever you’re going.

The product’s description reads: “This expandable black weekender bag is the ultimate travel companion, designed for both style and practicality. With plenty of space for essentials, it expands to fit even more, making it perfect for weekend getaways or spontaneous trips. Strong handles and a lightweight design ensure comfort, while its sleek look complements any travel style.”

The bag comes in two colourways – black and blue.

Earlier this month, a Galway man hit out at Ryanair after he claimed the airline charged him over €60 for a carry-on bag on which the straps reached slightly above the edge of Ryanair’s bag measuring container

Sports therapist John Butler was getting a flight with the budget airline from Dublin Airport to Lanzarote on New Year’s Eve when a backpack his family were travelling with was singled out.

John shared photos and videos online of the bag, showing the straps slightly above the edge of Ryanair’s bag measuring container. He raged that the return trip would leave him a total of €120 out of pocket.

“€120 extra for this, Ryanair?”

“Absolute Disgusting Behaviour,” John wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“The handles are above the permitted level. So that will cost you €60 extra to Board! & ‘Gate will close if you take anymore pictures’,” he added.

Ryanair did not respond to Galway Beo’s request for comment.
