Frequent fliers on Ryanair know all too well how they can get caught out on baggage allowance – but a new product being sold at Penneys has been touted as the answer to their prayers.
Tiktoker @_rachelcairns showed off the new item, the ‘Expandable Weekender Bag’, captioning the video: “Expandable. Life hack for those on a budget.” She added: “Run to Penneys for the extendable Ryanair cabin bag. So much room.”
Plenty of fliers have faced paying a heavy price for their bag being too big but the ‘Expandable Weekender Bag’ promises to be small enough for short trips and yet big enough to carry all the essentials for wherever you’re going.
The product’s description reads: “This expandable black weekender bag is the ultimate travel companion, designed for both style and practicality. With plenty of space for essentials, it expands to fit even more, making it perfect for weekend getaways or spontaneous trips.

The bag comes in two colourways – black and blue.
There is an alternative for those not won over by Penney’s bag. For just €20, last minute flyers can snatch up a tiny suitcase in Dealz that is labelled as ‘suitable for all airlines’.
And while it might look like a Barbie accessory, it measures in at 40 x 20 x 25cm – exactly the same size as Ryanair’s official guidelines for a small bag that passengers can carry on board and stuff under the seat.
But as always with Ryanair and luggage – it’s a case of buyer beware – and watch out for that €70 boarding gate fine that can ruin the start of any holiday.
Ryanair’s website says the small bag can be a “handbag, laptop bag or backpack”, with no mention of tiny suitcases, so chancing it at the departure gate could mean leaving it behind, paying the fine or possibly having to buy new swimming trunks when you land.
