Paul Warne says Lars-Jorgen Salvesen ticked the boxes of his staff and Derby County’s recruitment team after scouring the European market for a new striker.
Salvesen wrapped up his move to Derby yesterday with the forward signing a two-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Norwegian side Viking FK.
The forward was due to train with his new team-mates today and his arrival ends a long pursuit for a new striker with Derby having been eager to bolster their attack.
The 6ft 1in forward scored 12 goals and registered four assists in the Eliterserien last season with Salvesen described as a mobile target man. And speaking today, Derby head coach Warne said he will add something new to what he already has in the building.
“I don’t know if I mentioned it, but I’ve been trying to sign somebody across the frontline for a while and something different to what we have got,” he said.
“The lads who have played across the frontline have all been great but we needed someone else. He is mobile which I like and I like somebody who can get between the sticks.
“It’s not just about helping the team build up on the halfway line. He will give us something different. We cross the ball a lot and I openly admit I like wide players who do crosses and I just felt at times we have been missing somebody who can get a chance out of nothing or rise at the far post for a header.
“Out of all the players we looked at in the European market he is the one that all the coaches liked the most and the recruiters did as well. He was affordable and available to us. Fundamentally, the lad wanted to come as well.
“I think it will be a really good addition for us and it’s a change in life for him, a change of country, a change of football and a change of intensity.”
