Paul Warne issues triple Derby County injury update and makes Eiran Cashin admission

Paul Warne says it could be weeks before Eiran Cashin makes his return for Derby County and looks set to be without Ben Osborn and Liam Thompson for the trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

Cashin injured his hamstring in the 4-0 win over Portsmouth but is still no closer to a return. Osborn meanwhile has been ruled out of the game to face Wednesday at Hillsborough in three days’ time after tweaking his glute in training on Christmas Eve.

Liam Thompson is due to train tomorrow after missing the defeat to Leeds last night but the hopes of him starting for Derby against Wednesday appear to be remote.

“I don’t think Ben will be available for Wednesday unfortunately,” said Warne. “Thommo did join in training yesterday but that was his first day, so it might be an ask for the Sheffield Wednesday game.

“It will probably more likely the Bristol City game, but we definitely missed their legs and drive against Leeds. It was a perfect game for both of them to be fair.

“Hopefully Ben will be back soon and Thommo, unless he falls over tonight, will join in training tomorrow. Cash is weeks away, so I don’t expect to see him and don’t know if I’ll see him in January. We’ll have to wait and see.”

Derby picked up no fresh injury concerns from their defeat to Leeds last night and are still without David Ozoh with the Crystal Palace midfielder still no closer to a return. Ryan Nyambe is hopefully due to be back at the end of January in what would be a major boost to Warne given his early season form before he injured his posterior ligament in his knee at Millwall.
