Police have issued an update on Paul Danan following the news of his death at age 46.
In a statement, Avon and Somerset Police said that their “thoughts” are with the family of the Hollyoaks star and gave more insight into the circumstances surrounding his death.
A statement to the PA news agency from Avon and Somerset Police said: “Officers attended a property in Brislington, Bristol, at around 5.20pm yesterday (Wednesday 15 January) where sadly a man in his 40s was declared deceased by paramedics.
“His family have been notified and our thoughts are with them. They have asked for people to respect their privacy during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement read. “His death is not being treated as suspicious and officers are preparing a file for the coroner.”

It comes after Paul’s management announced his death in a statement shared earlier today. “It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of @pauldanan at just 46 years old,” they wrote.
“Known for his television presence, exceptional talent, and unwavering kindness, Paul was a beacon of light to so many. His untimely departure will leave irreplaceable voids in the lives of all who knew him.
“During this difficult time, we kindly request respect and privacy for Paul’s family, friends, and colleagues. No further comments will be made at this time.” It was later revealed that Paul was due to appear in court today, over drug and driving offences.
He was set to enter a plea at Warrington Magistrates’ Court in Cheshire today after being charged with being in possession of several bags of cocaine as well as a ‘quantity’ of cannabis, as said in court documents.
Paul had suffered a near-death experience just six months before his tragic death. He was rushed to hospital and underwent treatment in intensive care after suffering respiratory failure.

Paul developed his vaping addiction after stopping cigarettes in 2021. The soap actor and reality star revealed he was under the impression that vaping was “healthier”. However, his addiction soon turned to vaping and he “got obsessed”. He said: “Everywhere I went I’d have my vape with me. I’d always have one in my hand, I would even go to sleep with it, like a comfort thing.”
However, Paul’s vaping addiction caused him to collapse and he was rushed to Whipps Cross Hospital in London. Paul received treatment in intensive care and also got pneumonia.
“I was dead – it’s a miracle I’m here. I’m upstairs puffing away on my vape then suddenly I lost my breath and collapsed. My family called for an ambulance and started giving me CPR, then police arrived and took over before paramedics took me to hospital,” he said at the time, before revealing that his family were given the worst news.
He recalled of his hospital stay, blaming his admission on his vaping: “I was on a machine in ICU and ended up with pneumonia. My family were warned that I might not make it through the night. I’m so lucky.”
Paul was given a stern warning by his doctor, who explained to him that if he ever smoked again he could end up on an oxygen tank.
