Parts of Nuneaton hospital have been isolated to stop the rising spread of flu. The George Eliot Hospital says it is continuing to have to keep those suffering from flu in ‘specific areas’ away from other areas.
The ‘Eliot has told CoventryLive that it currently has 44 positive flu cases within the hospital. But the numbers are set to rise as more people are turning up at Accident and Emergency with the viral infection.
Stopping the spread of the infection is currently a priority. It is for this reason that the hospital is urging anyone who is eligible to ensure they have their flu jab.

NHS England warned of a ‘tidal wave’ of flu cases in hospitals across the country just before Christmas. This has continued into the New Year and is combined with a rise in Norovirus and RSV cases nationally.
This is putting extra pressure on hospital staff and the George Eliot Hospital is not immune to this. It has already revealed that, over the 48 hour New Year period, it saw almost 500 people in its Accident and Emergency department.
With the threat of cold weather and a yellow warning for snow in place this weekend, even more demand is set to be piled on the local hospital. Professor Sir Stephen Powis, NHS National Medical Director, said urged: “I would encourage everyone to remember to use NHS 111 in the first instance and only use A&E and 999 in life-threatening emergencies.”
