Parking restrictions proposed to stop people leaving cars for days on Lincoln road

Parking restrictions are being considered for a Lincoln street where people are leaving their vehicles for long periods. Residents on St Andrew’s Close, in Sincil Bank, have complained this is blocking them from getting into their own driveways.

Lincolnshire County Council says it also makes it difficult for parents to drop off children at the nearby Lincoln Bishop King Primary School. The council is proposing adding a ‘no waiting’ restriction to the south side, which will apply from 10am to 11am each day from Monday to Saturday.

It is hoped this will stop people from leaving their vehicles there indefinitely, while still providing space for parents and visitors. Parking is already prohibited on the north side of the road between 8am and 6pm, except for Sundays.

The council’s Planning and Regulation committee will discuss the proposals on Monday, January 13. “Residents have raised the issue of vehicles parking for extended periods on the south side, causing obstruction to residents’ driveways,” a report says.

“These vehicles also take up space which could provide safe parking for parents to drop off and collect school children, which currently takes place on existing restrictions, junctions and footways. Site monitoring has confirmed the incidence of long-term parking and the impact this has on residents and at busy school times.”

There have been two objections to the plans, pointing out it is in the only road in Sincil Bank which isn’t in a parking permit scheme. One objector says keeping St Andrew’s Close restriction-free would help people without a permit, or those who need more than two per house.

Another said it would have a negative impact on residents. It’s recommended that councillors approve the changes at the meeting, with council officers saying it would improve road safety.
