Paddy Hill, one of the men wrongfully convicted in the 1974 IRA pub bombings in Birmingham, has passed away at the age of 80. Known as one of the Birmingham Six, a group of Northern Irish men who were imprisoned for the attacks that killed 21 people in two city center pubs in November 1974, Hill spent nearly two decades behind bars before their convictions were overturned in 1991.
The Miscarriages of Justice Organisation (MOJO) announced on their Facebook page: “It is with great sorrow Paddy died this morning peacefully at home. Our condolences to his family at this sad time. We ask that you respect the family’s privacy.”
After his release, Hill founded MOJO in 2001 to support others who have been wrongfully convicted. With his passing, only three members of the Birmingham Six remain alive: Gerry Hunter, John Walker, and Billy Power.
