Otters play-fight in Glasgow’s River Clyde as local says it was a ‘pleasure to watch’

Two otters have been caught on camera play-fighting in the River Clyde in Glasgow.

The fiery pair were spotted by local and wildlife enthusiast David, known on X as Bwarropics, who managed to grab crystal clear footage of the moment.

While on a lunchtime walk near the northern bank of the river between Richmond Park and Glasgow Green on Tuesday (January 7), David saw the two otters playing or by the looks of it getting into a squabble at around 2.30pm.

Speaking to Glasgow Live, he said the creatures are often seen on the Clyde between Polmadie footbridge and Dalmarnock. He added: “Its always a great privilege and pleasure to watch them”.

The pair can be seen splashing around in the water and play-fighting (or having a Glasgow square-go) before one escapes the other’s grip and hops along the bank.

The River Clyde is home to few marine mammals including harbour porpoises, seals and otters. Its fish population includes cod, pollock, and even basking sharks!
