One-of-a-kind light and sound experience coming to Truro Cathedral

A one-of-a-kind light and sound experience is coming to Cornwall. Truro Cathedral will host Space by Luxmuralis, which allows visitors to gaze into the universe in this immersive installation.

The Luxmuralis show later this month will bring the cathedral to life between January 13 – 17. The event has been described as the “stained glass windows of our time” and “art on an epic scale”.

The events will show one of the South West’s greatest buildings as you’ve never seen it before, organisers said. Luxmuralis is the artistic collaboration between sculptor Peter Walker and composer David Harper, who specialise in immersive fine art, light and sound installations around the UK and abroad.

During the art installation, event-goers will be able to take a walk through ‘Space’, look out and think about what humans have achieved in the world. Visitors will wander through projections of galaxies, a rocket launch, and the universe beyond, all with immersive soundscapes.

Chief Operating Officer at Truro Cathedral, Sean O’Neill, said: “The thing I look forward to most about events here is meeting people who have never visited us before! I’m sure Luxmuralis will be the same, offering those who may never have stepped inside the cathedral a reason to do so. We all have places we’ve never been on our doorsteps; we’re just waiting for the right invitation to visit.

“So, in the spirit of that invitation, I hope that you all come and see Luxmuralis during its time here on its first visit to Truro Cathedral!”

Tickets are available on the Truro Cathedral website. Time slots are available every 20 minutes between 5.10pm and 9.30pm from Tuesday, January 14 – Friday, January 17 and every 20 minutes from 5.50pm – 9.30pm on the first night (Monday, January 13 ).

Tickets are priced at £10 for adults, £8 for children aged over 5, under 5s are free and a family ticket (two adults and up to five children) is £25. The full light show takes about 45 minutes to complete, but visitors are welcome to stay and immerse themselves for as long as they like once they’ve entered the cathedral at their designated time slot.

Organisers anticipate that the visit will take about an hour. More information is available on the Truro Cathedral website and social media channels.
