Omaze will hand over the keys of a beautiful £4.25million mansion – their biggest prize ever – to one lucky player in the coming weeks. The winner of the drippingly posh six-bed dwelling on the banks of the river Avon in the upmarket Batheaston suburb of Bath will announced on January 26.
Batheaston House boasts four well lit reception rooms, marble fireplaces, a secret room behind a sliding cabinet, a wine cellar and an orangery – which is aristocratic speak for a conservatory – overlooking the river at the bottom of the garden.
The stunning Grade II-listed mansion sounds like a dream for any Brit struggling to make ends meet during the cost-of-living crisis. But there is one major catch – the running costs.

To keep the aristocratic home maintained and in good order, the annual bill comes to around £50,000, an expert told the Daily Mail. There are also a number of other snags one might miss in Omaze’s slick advertisement of the property.
The house is built on a main road and there is a public path at the bottom of the garden. While these factors may not be deal breakers, climate change may break the heart of future occupiers as the area is known to flood during heavy rains.

The lucky winner can do what they want with the house – which requires a cleaner and gardener – as soon as they are handed the keys. And Omaze estimates the running costs to be around £3,350 per month.
However, property expert David Adams of David Adams Luxury Property estimates the costs could be as high as £50,000 a year.
He said: “This doesn’t cover the year when you have to put up scaffolding to paint and fix the roof. These costs can add strain to a budget for a second home.”
Earlier this week, a primary school teacher broke dry January after winning a stunning £4million waterside property in the Lake District.

Hannah Drury, 42, is now the proud owner of a secluded sanctuary surrounded by nature, with Coniston Water, the third largest lake in the Lake District, right on her doorstep, thanks to the latest Omaze Million Pound House Draw.
The breathtaking property, which was redeveloped and redesigned by Omaze, comes mortgage-free and with all legal fees covered. In addition to the house, Hannah has been handed a hefty £250,000 in cash to help her settle in.

Hannah said: “I got a random call on Friday night saying I’d won something from Omaze, at first I just assumed it was a friend winding us up, then when I didn’t recognise the voice I thought that maybe we’d scoop a little bit of cash or something. But all of a sudden, Omaze turned up to reveal I’d won a £4million mansion!
“I was speechless, and that never happens! My husband was flabbergasted as he didn’t even know I’d entered.”
On ditching Dry January she said: “I had planned to do Dry Jan this year, but that went out the window immediately! I lasted all of three days, but if you can’t have a drink when you’ve won a £4million house when can you.
