Nottinghamshire flooding live updates as roads closed and more than 20 ‘act now’ warnings issued

A number of roads remain closed and more than 20 flood warnings are in place in and around Nottinghamshire as the disruptive start to 2025 continues. Temperatures reached as low as -6C in some spots overnight as the county wakes up to another severe frost and more disruption.

Nottinghamshire County Council said Wilford Lane was closed at junction of Compton Acres and The Becket Way due to flooding. It said it will remain closed until after the morning rush hour on Thursday, January 9 when a further assessment will be carried out.

As of 6.15am on January 9, a total of 25 road closures were in place across the county with drivers told to expect “significant delays.” A County Council spokesperson said: “Please allow extra time as significant delays are expected [this] morning.

“Conditions remain extremely hazardous despite gritting.” They added: “Please respect road closures. They are in place for your safety.”

The Environment Agency has issued 24 flood warnings in and around the county, meaning flooding is “expected” and that people should “act now”. Flooding of property is expected in Gunthorpe and Lowdham with river levels on the River Trent expected to remain high until Thursday (January 9).

An Environment Agency spokesman said: “We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are patrolling watercourses in the area and liaising with emergency services.

“Please avoid contact with flood water and turn off gas, electricity and water.”
