Further snow is expected in Northern Ireland later this weekend, as some areas of the country woke up to snowy scenes on Thursday and Friday.
The Met Office has issued a new yellow weather warning for ice across most of Northern Ireland which comes into force at 4pm this afternoon, Friday, January 3 and remains in place until 10am Saturday, January 4.
The warning covers counties Antrim, Down, Derry and Tyrone.
A spokesperson said: “Temperatures will again fall widely below freezing during Friday evening. This will allow ice to readily form on untreated surfaces, particularly where roads and pavements remain wet from wintry showers.
“Scattered showers will fall as a mixture of rain, sleet and snow. Most areas are unlikely to see any fresh accumulations of snow though a slight covering is possible in places.”
Staying cold on Saturday, January 4. It’s forecast to be “dry and bright much of the day with perhaps the odd coastal shower in the north and east” with a maximum temperature of 4C.
And for the outlook for Sunday, January 5, to Tuesday, January 7: “Rain, sleet and snow spreading north on Sunday, clearing to bright spells and some showers on Monday and Tuesday with strong northwesterly winds at times.”
