Northern Ireland snow warning cancelled by Met Office as latest update issued

A weather warning for snow in Northern Ireland has been cancelled, with the Met Office issuing an updated forecast.

The yellow alert, issued yesterday, was expected to bring snow to the region on New Year’s Day, with the warning in place from 7am to midnight on Wednesday.

While the warning for snow no longer remains in place, a yellow alert for winds remains in place for tomorrow, New Year’s Eve. A Met Office spokesperson said: “Strong westerly winds may lead to some travel disruption on New Year’s Eve.”

“Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely and it’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.”

Today, December 30, sets to be a cloudy day with some patchy rain, this turning heavier for a time across the north and west. Fresh to strong westerly winds, easing later with maximum temperatures of 12C.

New Year’s Eve is forecast to have showery rain moving east with drier spells developing but a risk afternoon showers , fresh or strong winds. Feeling cooler. Maximum temperatures of 11C.
