Families in North Staffordshire are braced for a day of snow as the winter blast ramps up another notch. This morning residents woke up to the third successive morning of a blanket of the white stuff.
Now the Met Office reckons the wintry conditions are set to strike again today – and keep going. The latest forecast for Stoke-on-Trent is for sleet showers between 9am and 3pm, but heavy snow is then forecast from 4pm before light flurries lasting until 8pm tonight.
However in Leek and it will be far more wintry with around 14 hours worth of snow set to fall. While there will be a sleet shower at around 9am, that is then set to turn into snow flurries from 10am with it then turning heavy until 2pm.
There will then be light flurries before, like the city, heavy snow at around 4pm. Light snow is then expected until midnight with a let-up at around 9pm.
Over in Newcastle and sleet is forecast until noon when it will then be heavy snow. Further sleet showers are then expected before heavy snow at around 4pm and light flurries going through to around 11pm.
Temperatures around North Staffordshire aren’t likely to get past 1C today – but it will feel more like -4C at times. The Met Office issued a yellow warning for snow and ice yesterday that kicked in at 5pm and will last until 10am today.
