North Staffordshire families told ‘act now’ as flood warnings in place

Families are being urged to be vigilant after flood warnings were rolled out across North Staffordshire. The Environment Agency has today issued the warnings around the Moorlands where previous heavy rainfall coupled with snow has seen river levels rise.

the conditions have also caused havoc on the roads with key routes both in the Moorlands and around Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle left submerged. Flooding has shut two lanes on the M6 between South Cheshire and North Staffordshire, the A520 between Oulton and Rough Close, and the A522 in Beamhurst.

The A34 around Talke roundabout is also said to be under water while the northbound slip-road to the A500 from that junction has been shut off, again due to flooding. Today and the Environment Agency has issued flood warnings in the following places, which all come with an ‘act now’ message to residents:

  • Endon Brook through Denford;
  • River Churnet at Cheddleton, Oakamoor, Alton and Froghall;
  • River Weaver in Nantwich;
  • Sandyford Brook in Stafford.

  • River Trent through Stoke and Stone;
  • Rivers Churnet and Tean around Kingsley;
  • Rivers Blithe and Swarbourn near Kingstone;
  • Rivers Sow and Penk near Hyde Lea, south of Stafford.

The latest Met Office forecast says North Staffordshire is likely to see sleet today – before snow returns tomorrow morning. As reported by StokeonTrent and today and meteorologists have issued the Potteries with a yellow warning for snow and ice that will run from 5pm until 10am tomorrow.
