NORTH EAST NEWS: One person taken to hospital after three-vehicle crash on A1(M)

One person has been taken to hospital following a three-vehicle crash.

The A1(M) is blocked in County Durham on Thursday following the collision at around 12.45pm. The northbound carriageway is blocked at Junction 60 for Bradbury, at the intersection of the A689.

One person has been taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital, emergency services have confirmed. Durham Constabulary confirmed that the northbound carriageway has now re-opened. However, the AA reports that traffic remains very slow.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: “At approximately 12.45pm today emergency services were alerted to a three-vehicle crash on the northbound carriageway of the A1(M) near Bradbury Interchange. One person was taken to hospital by ambulance.

“The motorway was closed northbound, with diversions in place, but has now reopened.” A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called to a road traffic incident today (January 2) on the A689 in Bradbury at 12.44pm.

“We dispatched one ambulance crew, one duty officer, one clinical team leader and two HART crews (Hazardous Area Response Team). One patient was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital.”
