‘No longer fit for purpose’ Beverley GP surgery to close on Thursdays and Fridays

The Walkergate surgery in Beverley will no longer open on Thursdays and Fridays, with patients being urged to go to other sites.

The surgery has announced that its opening hours have been slashed from the start of 2025. The surgery will now only be open three days a week, Monday to Wednesday, 8am to 6pm.

A statement on the surgery’s NHS website states: “This change allows us to centralise our services, providing better clinician support and improving patient care. Unfortunately, Walkergate Surgery is no longer fit for purpose, and we believe this adjustment will help us serve you better.”

Greengates Medical Group, who run the surgery have also confirmed that “telephones will be diverted to another site so patients can ring as normal. Walk in will not be possible at Walkergate Surgery, but patients can access any of our other sites for assistance.”

The announcement was initially made along with information about an engagement process “as regards closing the site completely at the end of March 2025 due to it being no longer fit or safe for purpose,” starting from January 6.

However, this part of the announcement was removed soon afterwards with the Greengates Medical Group declining the opportunity to address the altered statement.
