Whether you’re celebrating with family or mates, a well-timed supermarket run is often key to ensuring you’ve got everything from party nibbles to last-minute must-haves.
This New Year’s Eve, shoppers are being urged to plan ahead and not leave their supermarket trip until the eleventh hour. Over the festive period, many shops tweak their opening hours – which can catch even the most organised of us off guard.
On December 31, plenty of shops will be shutting up shop earlier than usual and some will stay closed all day on New Year’s Day, making it vital to check ahead and stock up in good time. Dunnes
Dunnes is a go-to for party essentials, and their New Year’s opening hours will differ depending on the size and location of the shop. Many will shut early – around 7pm – on New Year’s Eve.
Some will be closed on New Year’s Day, while others will open later and close earlier on January 1. For instance, Dunnes Stores in Dublin’s Ilac Centre is shut on New Year’s Day, while Dunnes on South Great George’s Street will be open from 11am to 7pm, reports the Irish Mirror.

Lidl
Lidl stores across the country will be shut on New Year’s Day and will have reduced hours on New Year’s Eve. On New Year’s Eve, they’ll be open from 8am to 6pm, but will remain closed on New Year’s Day.
On January 2, they’ll resume operations from 8am to 10pm.
SuperValu
SuperValu branches, which are individually run, will have different opening hours over the New Year’s weekend.

Tesco
Tesco’s opening hours will differ from store to store nationwide, but there will be some changes to the usual opening and closing times.
Typically, on New Year’s Eve, Tesco will be open until 9pm, while on New Year’s Day, many stores will operate from 10am until 6pm. You can find your local store’s opening hours on their website.
Aldi
Aldi stores nationwide will also be closed on New Year’s Day and will have shorter operating hours on New Year’s Eve. They’ll be open from 8am to 7pm on New Year’s Eve, closed on New Year’s Day, and back to normal from 9am to 10pm on January 2.
