New Year’s Eve drink drive arrest after man crashes into parked cars and ‘runs from scene’

Police arrested a man on suspicion of drink-driving after a motorist crashed into parked cars in an early hours incident. The man allegedly collided with three stationary vehicles before ‘running from the scene’ in Norton Canes.

Staffordshire Police were called to the crash on Burntwood Road shortly after midnight on Tuesday, December 31. The road was closed off for several hours, with all vehicles recovered and the road cleared by 2.40am.

A white Fiat Doblo van had collided with a silver Kia Rio, a grey Mini Countryman and a black Land Rover Discovery, the police force said. Fortunately, no one was injured.

A 36-year-old man from Cannock was found and detained on Walsall Road a short time after the collision. He was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink and remained in police custody on Tuesday afternoon.

Staffordshire Police urged anyone with information, or who has dashcam footage, to get in touch. A force spokesperson said: “No one was reported injured. A man was detained by officers on Walsall Road a short time later.

“A 36-year-old man, from Cannock, was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink. He remains in police custody while inquiries continue. All vehicles were recovered and the road was cleared by 2.40am.
