The start of 2025 is set to be blustery across Coventry and Warwickshire as the Met Office warns of gales. The latest local online forecast predicts that winds could hit 49mph tomorrow (January 1).
These ‘inland gales’ will be fiercest in the early hours of New Year’s Day, remaining at 47mph at around 6am. The wind speed will then drop to 44mph at 7am, falling to the mid 30s by lunchtime.
Today (New Year’s Eve) is set to see the start of the windy weather, with gales arriving by the late afternoon. Rain is also set to sweep in.

As well as the weather warning, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) says that there will also be plunging temperatures, putting a yellow cold weather alert in place. This covers the Coventry and Warwickshire area.

Today
A dry morning with some bright intervals. Thickening cloud with periods of rain moving into northern counties by early afternoon. Turning windy for all with local gales in hillier areas. Maximum temperature 11C.
Tonight
Rain becomes slow moving overnight, remaining mostly in the north with drier conditions in the south. Very windy throughout with continuing gales. Still mild. Minimum temperature 6C.
Wednesday
Wet and windy start to New Year’s Day with heavy pulses of rain spreading to all, plus inland gales. Gradually becoming drier and calmer in the afternoon but also colder. Maximum temperature 10C.
Outlook for Thursday to Saturday
Much sunnier to end the week, but also notably colder with some sharp overnight frosts. A few showers possible in the north on Friday and Saturday, wintry over the hills.
