We’re in for a soggy start to 2025. That’s according to the latest forecast from the Met Office which is predicting heavy rain over overnight and into the early hours of New Year’s Eve.
A period of strong winds will also commence just after midnight, at 12.15am on Wednesday, January 1, prompting the weather agency to issue a yellow weather warning for the region. Wind gusts of around 50mph are expected in Nottingham between 10pm tonight and 7am tomorrow morning.
The Met Office warning will stay in place until 3pm the same day as gusts could potentially reach up to 60mph. The conditions will affect the East Midlands, East of England, London and South East England, North West England, South West England, Wales, the West Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber.
A statement from the Met Office said: “Strong southwesterly winds are expected overnight and during Wednesday. The strongest winds are expected across coastal regions in the west and south of the warning area, where gusts of 65-75 mph are possible.
“Inland, highest gusts will typically be between 45 and 55 mph, but possibly 60 mph in places, particularly in association with the passage of squally cold front which will bring a band of heavy rain southwards.
“The wind is expected to ease quickly from the north through the course of the day as this cold front passes.” Below you can find an hour-by-hour forecast for this evening and New Year’s Day.
