The West Hoe area of Plymouth could be getting a new convenience store. Pre-planning advice is being sought from Plymouth City Council for a single storey shop at Cliff Road, in the West Hoe shopping centre.
The land had previous consent granted in 2020 for a dental surgery and nine flats over six floors and included demolishing a one-and-a-half storey building on site. The area has been cleared and is enclosed with fencing but the status of the consented scheme is unclear, planning agent James Wells said in documents to the council.
To the rear, a GP surgery and residential development has been constructed after securing planning permission.
Mr Wells, acting for applicant Mr Y Azizi, said no new retail space had been provided for the neighbourhood in recent times. He claimed the proposal would make it easier for people to do top-up shopping, bring a vacant site back into use and enhance the appearance of the area.
A single-storey building of 350 square metres could be developed later but the current application would have no discernible impact on adjacent properties, he added.
The plans also propose four parking spaces.
