A new dad was left shell-shocked after passing his driving test first time before being gifted the car he learned to drive in.
Lucky Jack Price was met with the incredible act of benevolence from his driving instructor after passing his practical first time around. The 20-year-old was learning to drive ahead of the birth of his first child in November, and was bowled over the generosity.
Jack, from Hull, was initially offered the Nissan Micra by instructor Steven Hunter in the run-up to the big exam. Hoping Steven would sell it to him for a reasonable price due to the recent birth of his son, he was stunned to be told it would be a gift.

The new driver told Hull Live: “I was in a lesson and we came to the end of it and pulled up outside my house and he said to me, ‘Would you be interested in wanting this car?’ I thought he meant me buying it and I thought I’d buy it depending on how much he wants for it.
“Anyway I said yes and messaged him later and said, ‘How much do you want for the car?’ He just replied to me, ‘Nothing, zilch, zero.’ Obviously I was a bit shocked but really grateful.”
The incredible act of kindness will mean Jack’s new family has more independence as they get settled into parenthood. He added: “I’ve never had anything like that happen to me before, but I’m really grateful for it because we’ve just had the baby and I’d never have been able to afford a car because my girlfriend’s already got one so it would be a struggle for me to have one myself.
“With him giving me this car, it has really helped me a lot. It’s not something you expect to happen to you.” Instructor Steven says he was only too happy to donate the car, as he already needs to frequently upgrade his wheels.
But with the returns on trading them in diminishing, more recently Steven has begun donating the cars to students upon passing their tests. The Micra, he said, was the third car he’d donated.
Jack, who said he was “over the moon” as the gesture, added: “I’d really recommend Steven for lessons. He is a really good instructor and really kind and sweet.”
