A new warning for snow and ice has been issued for the north-east as forecaster predict continuing snow showers over the coming days.
The latest yellow Met Office warning for snow and ice comes into effect at 4pm today, lasting until 12pm on Tuesday (January 7). It takes in Aberdeen City as well as the vast majority of Aberdeenshire, with snowfall of up to 10cm is expected in parts of Scotland.
It comes as dozens of schools in Aberdeenshire were forced to shut today (Monday, January 6) when residents woke up to a blanket of snow across the region. A number of Aberdeen school were also affected.
The Met Office has warned those living in affected areas that “further wintry showers may lead to some travel disruption”. The warning takes in the majority of Scotland as well as large parts of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The latest warning covers most of Aberdeenshire

The alert reads: “Snow showers will continue for the rest of Monday and into Tuesday morning bringing further accumulations of 2 to 5 cm in places, and 5 to 10 cm above 200 metres across northern Scotland. Showers will initially fall as rain or sleet at lower levels this evening, and across the Northern Isles at times throughout, leading to a risk of icy stretches.”
