A new weather warning has been issued for North Staffordshire – with ‘heavy snow’ forecast. The Met Office has put a yellow warning for snow and ice in place for the county, including the Potteries, that will span the weekend.
And it comes as the latest forecast suggests there could be spells of heavy snow on Saturday night. The warning comes after an amber cold-health alert was today put in place for Staffordshire – along with the rest of England.
That comes as temperatures have plummeted amid forecasts for wintry conditions in the coming days. The latest warning will replace the previous yellow alert for snow that had been put in place for Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire.
This warning will come in at noon on Saturday and will run until 11.59pm on Sunday. In what is looking to be an ever-changing forecast, the Met Office is currently predicting heavy snow from 9pm on Saturday night – for the city and North Staffordshire – going into Sunday when it will turn into rain.
Those rain showers could then last all day on Sunday in what is shaping up to be a wet and cold day. Meanwhile the Beeb is currently predicting sleet on Saturday afternoon through to Sunday for North Staffordshire. Instead the BBC reckons in and around Leek will see light snow on Tuesday and Friday.
Meanwhile the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) today scrapped a previous yellow cold-health alert for an amber one. That came in at noon today (January 2) and will run to the same time on January 8.
North Staffordshire could see lows of around -5C overnight that will feel more like -8C at times. Friday will be freezing until 11am when temperatures reach 1C and creep up to 3C by the mid-afternoon.
It won’t get past 2C on Saturday before Sunday evening brings a high of 7C. But it will drop again on Monday in what is shaping up to be a chilly week.
