A new mental health hospital for women is to open in North Staffordshire within months. The 31-bed Cygnet Hospital Kidsgrove, on Boathorse Road, will aim to support women to receive emergency mental health support and rehabilitation.
It will have two wards; Crocus Ward, for acute admissions and Burleigh Ward, a highly-specialised Personality Disorder service. An exact opening date is yet to be confirmed but it is expected to be this summer.
Victor Mudarikwa, Cygnet Health Care operations director for the Midlands, said: “We are currently in the midst of a mental health crisis and Cygnet is determined to play its part in ensuring people get access to the right treatment, at the right time.
“Stoke-on-Trent has higher rates of mental ill-health than the country average, a gap that has been widening over the last decade. The addition of this new service in the region will support women struggling with their mental health and is part of Cygnet’s ongoing commitment to providing state-of-the-art services which deliver compassionate, safe, quality care that meets the unique needs of those who need it.”
Cygnet Health Care already runs Cygnet St Augustine’s, a 32-bed facility for men on Cobridge Road. The new hospital will bring jobs, including clinical, nursing and administrative roles.

When fully open in the summer this year, Cygnet Hospital Kidsgrove will be a fantastic addition to our existing mental health services, and it will make an enormous difference to those who may have otherwise needed to have travelled further distances for their care and treatment.

It will provide a safe and comfortable environment to promote successful recovery as well as giving our staff the facility they need to provide the most effective care and support.
