Netflix fans spot ‘random’ GK Barry cameo minutes into Missing You episode

Netflix fans were quick to spot a ‘random’ cameo from a well-known personality in the opening minutes of new series Missing You.

The fresh release from Harlan Coben dropped on Netflix on New Year’s Day and has already climbed to the top as one of the platform’s most-watched offerings. It hails as a successor to Fool Me Once, another adaptation of the acclaimed author’s work.

Missing You zooms in on Detective Kat Donovan, who encounters her fiancé Josh on a dating app more than ten years after his mysterious disappearance. With his sudden reappearance, Kat is plunged back into the enigma of her father’s murder and a web of secrets she buried long ago.

Fans who have swiftly binged the series and are expressing their astonishment at a surprise cameo right at the start of episode one. A fleeting glimpse of a woman accompanies a voiceover’s words “I dream of you”, and despite initial confusion over her character and role in the show, it’s later revealed that the part is being played by internet celebrity GK Barry better known as Grace Keeling from the podcast Saving Grace. 

Her appearance follows her recent stint as a campmate on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here, reports the Mirror. It appears she’s bolstering her acting credentials, with her name currently listed for a single episode of Missing You on the IMDB website. 

One fan was left scratching their head, posting: “GK Barry girl, what are you doing here?”, while another expressed their surprise: “I’m so confused just started watching missing you on Netflix and why the f*** is GK Barry in it?”. Another viewer exclaimed: “GK Barry being in Missing You on Netflix is so random.”

Following the buzz around her cameo, she responded with a light-hearted message on her Instagram stories, saying: “Happy New Year everyone” alongside chuckling emojis. She’s also shared some of the positive feedback the show has garnered.

Her unexpected role isn’t the only one that’s got tongues wagging; fans were equally taken aback to spot Busted’s Matt Willis in the premiere episode.

In an interview with Cosmo UK, GK Barry opened up about her acting venture: “They approached my manager and said, ‘We’re doing this new Netflix show, and we’d love Grace to be a little part in it.’ And I thought, ‘Well, I’m not going to say no.’ So we got on a call, and they were explaining who my character was, and it made me laugh so much because it’s very on brand.”
