Mystery surrounds Manchester opening of £26-per-box London florist founded on ‘old milk float’

A luxury London-based florist wants to set-up shop in Manchester — but mystery surrounds its opening.

Freddie’s Flowers, headquartered in Battersea, offers flowers via online subscription, starting at £26 per box. Each bouquet will last up to a fortnight, Freddie’s says, and comes with an arranging guide and its ‘super special flower food’.

Customers can even upgrade their package to the £41 per box ‘showstopper’ which promises more flowers and ‘exclusive varieties’. The company is also big on its green credentials, delivering flowers via electric van or by bicycle.

Now the company wants to set-up shop in Manchester city centre — but a mystery surrounds its opening plans.

Next week, it is applying for permission to operate three street trader licences on Cutting Room Square in Ancoats, Northern Quarter’s Stevenson Square, and St Ann’s Street in town.

But its application will be heard in private, as the bid includes ‘information relating to the financial or business affairs of any particular person’. It’s common for street trader licensing applications to be heard behind-closed-doors, with the council publishing decisions online afterwards.

At this stage, it is not yet known how Freddie’s intends to operate in Manchester, but previously it had a pop-up stand featuring a bicycle outside Nibble, on Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter.

“We’ll be here Nibble in Manchester all weekend chatting all things fleurs!,” the company said of its weekend-long visit on November 15 on Instagram.

The firm started out in 2015, when founder Freddie Garland began delivering flowers ‘in a knackered old milk float’.

Freddie’s Flowers was contacted for comment.
