Mum answers door to Tesco delivery driver and 15 years later he changes her life

A woman has shared her whirlwind romance after becoming “besotted” with her supermarket delivery driver.

Jane Crompton got a lot more than she had bargained for when receiving her food shop. Looking for love, the mum-of-two didn’t expect to find it on her doorstep when a driver for Tesco, Jonathan, came knocking. Determined to satisfy her swooning, she tracked him down and the pair organised a first date – but there was one issue; he was in a long-term relationship.

She tried to stop thinking about him, until one day, she spotted his relationship status on Facebook had changed to single – and the rest is history. “I couldn’t stop myself gaping at him, as he was drop-dead gorgeous,” the admin assistant, from Stalybridge, Manchester, said. “As our eyes met, I felt suddenly flustered and a bit speechless. “I hadn’t felt butterflies like that since my divorce; it was unreal.

Jonathan and Jane are a match made in heaven – after a chance reconnection 15 years after first meeting

Jonathan wasn’t single when they first reconnected

“It truly was like love at first sight and I really didn’t know what to do with myself. I was like a giggling schoolgirl. But it wasn’t the right time for us, as I later found out, he was in a long-term relationship. It crushed my heart, but fate always had plans to bring us back together. All we needed was a bit of time.”

Jane, 56, recalls her youngest son remarking that the delivery driver, 61, “fancied” her. Flustered, yet excited, she regretted not asking for his name. But after doing some digging, she came across his driver’s number on her food delivery invoice. She said: “I remember thinking my idea was crazy, but I had nothing to lose.

“I phoned the customer service line and said I needed to get a message across to him. When they said he would give me a call, I got all giddy again. I spent the next few hours staring at my phone and when an unknown number came ringing, I felt my heart pounding out of my chest.”

After exchanging a few words, the pair realised their feelings for one another and agreed to go on a date. But then, Jonathan broke the aforementioned news that he was, in fact, in a long-term relationship. Jane, though heartbroken, kept things amicable whenever he delivered her food shopping; until she moved to another town.

Fifteen years passed and she thought that was the last she would ever see of him. Until it was confirmed he was single. She said: “I had tried so hard to forget about him and move on, but I never felt a connection with anyone else like I did with him. When I saw he was single, it took a lot to not message him in a frenzy of excitement. And then one day, he commented on my photo saying I had a lovely smile and eyes. I stared at it in disbelief.”

Fifteen years passed until a life-changing phone call

After the flirtatious encounter, he started delivering to her area and the pair quickly rekindled their lost love. It began with being a shoulder to cry on during his tough breakup, to helping her with odd jobs around the house, to May 2023 when they officially started going out.

Now, they’ve been happily loved up for over a year. Jane added: “It’s like a dream come true, something you see in the movies. He’s so easy to talk to and it’s wonderful being with someone who I can truly be myself with. Each day, I become more and more besotted with him.

“It had been so many years since he first dropped off my shopping that I thought we were never meant to be. Clearly fate had other ideas. I’m the happiest I’ve been in a long time.
