Multiple flood warnings are still in force across Leicestershire after heavy rain caused havoc across the county. Four red warnings – where flooding is expected – remain in place today (Wednesday, January 8).
These red alerts – known as Flood Warnings – are in place for the River Wreake in Melton, the River Soar at Moor Lane in Normanton on Soar and Hathern Sports Ground, and the River Soar at Zouch Island. A red alert is also in place along the River Soar at caravan parks near Barrow upon Soar. It had earlier been issued with a “danger to life” warning, but that is now no longer in force.
Residents in Barrow Upon Soar have spoken of their worry at the “scary” floods and wondered what would have happened if the water “had got much higher than it did”. Others said the water levels were up to the windows of some of the caravans.

Meanwhile, Leicestershire’s flooding saw a dramatic rescue in Great Glen when Cimi Kazazi came to the aid of a woman trapped in her flooded car. Mr Kazazi’s heroics came hours before emergency services declared a major incident across the county.
Days on from the first wave of floods, two yellow alerts, which means flooding is possible, are also in place across Leicestershire. These are for the Lower River Soar in Loughborough and the River Wreake – covering areas like Syston, East Goscote, and Asfordby.
