Month-by-month list of Birmingham bin collection changes in 2025

A month-by-month list of when each Birmingham ward can expect to see changes to their bin collections has been confirmed by the council. Birmingham City Council is carrying out a transformation of its waste collection services, and plans to introduce changes throughout 2025.

The crisis-hit local authority is pushing ahead with cutting its residual bin collections from weekly to fortnightly across Birmingham as it looks to save money. As a result, households across Birmingham will see changes to their waste collections implemented in a “phased basis’ from April 2025.

A council report has confirmed that proposals to move residual waste collections from weekly to fortnightly will go ahead. However the council have said they will introduce a weekly food waste collection service and new recycling bin to ease the load, in the hopes that “people will have less general waste.”

The new schedule shows areas served by the Perry Barr depot are set to be the first to see the new changes introduced between April and June. Coun Majid Mahmood, cabinet member for environment and transport, previously said the changes would provide Brummies “with a better waste collection service that is in line with other councils”.

“I know some residents are concerned about moving to a fortnightly residual waste service, but this will not be introduced until we have the food waste collections, meaning people will have less general waste,” he said.

”There will be a phased introduction and we will be communicating all the changes to residents.” He said during a cabinet meeting last year that residents who could not accommodate an extra recycling bin would be offered a reusable sack. The council agreed to a wave of proposed cuts, and the move to a fortnightly residual waste service, after issues like the equal pay fiasco and disastrous implementation of a new IT and finance system.
