Footage has captured the moment an ‘appalling’ Volkswagen driver swerves in front of a car on the M6. Police released the clip as part of their crackdown on dangerous driving in Coventry, Birmingham, and the Black Country.
In a clip released by West Midlands Police, the VW driver can be seen swerving in front of another motorist, who had to quickly slam on the brakes to avoid crashing. It resulted in the driver, who has not been identified, receiving penalty points and also being fined.
Around 15,000 clips were sent in as part of Operation Snap in 2024, more than double the previous year, West Midlands Police said. Sergeant Stephen Evans said the initiative had been ‘overwhelmingly successful.’

Police said they acted on around 90 per cent of incidents as part of Operation Snap. Officers sent people on education courses and, in more serious cases, issued fines and penalty points in a bid to prevent the number of people killed or seriously injured.
Sgt Stephen Evans, from West Midlands Police, said: “We have had an overwhelmingly successful year on the Op Snap team and have been thrilled by the response from the public.
“We have had some appalling examples of driving which have been caught on dashcam, and we have been able to take the right action as a result.
“Feedback we get from people has been really positive, and they are reassured that we are taking action on their evidence. We are educating drivers and hopefully preventing collisions where people are killed and seriously injured.”
