Roads were left badly flooded and some cars submerged as heavy rain brought chaos to parts of West Yorkshire.
A number of vehicles were left stranded by flood water in various locations including Mirfield. Several roads were closed in Calderdale and Kirklees due to deep water. In Calderdale, flooding forced the closure of Rochdale Road at Walsden, Rochdale Road at Triangle and Kebroyd Park Road at Elland. In Kirklees, flooding led to the closure of Steanard Lane, Newgate and Wood Lane in Mirfield, and both tunnels at Calder View.
Photographs of submerged cars in Mirfield were posted on social media. And at Calder Grove, Wakefield, the Navigation Inn shared photos of the outdoor area which was flooded. Train services were badly affected by the weather, particularly TransPennine services because of flooding which led to the cancellation of services between Huddersfield and Leeds.
The game between Huddersfield Town and Wigan Athletic, due to be played at the Wigan ground at 3pm, was cancelled to flooding of routes around the stadium.
