Mexican restaurant giving out 1,000 free burritos as it opens new Manchester store

A popular Mexican chain is giving away 1,000 free burritos this week as it opens its second Manchester location.

Kambrero is known for its selection of build-your-own burritos, quesadilla stacks, nachos and tacos and is a popular name across the world having launched in Australia some 20 years ago.

On Thursday (January 16), the chain will be opening its second Manchester location on Cross Street – following the success of its first site by Piccadilly Gardens.

Located in the former Royal British Legion store next to Salt Dog Slims and near Albert Square, the new street food venue will open from 11am and the first 1,000 customers through the doors will get their hands on a free burrito.

People will be able to ‘build their own’ by selecting their preferred style of rice, beans, salsa, sauce and protein – from slow-cooked Barbacoa Beef, Chipotle Chicken, Pulled Pork or a vegetarian Chilli ‘Zin’ Carne.

Not only that, but they will also receive a free can of SYPS – the fizzy water brand from Manchester-based rapper Aitch – to go with their meal.

Emily Teh, CEO of Zambrero UK said “We’re so excited to be opening the doors of our second Manchester store, right in the heart of the city, giving us a chance to bring more of our Feel Good Mexican dishes to the local community.

“Not only will it give more burrito lovers a chance to enjoy our food, but it also means Manchester locals will be able to further support our mission to help end world hunger through our Plate 4 Plate initiative, as we donate a meal to those in need for every burrito or bowl sold.”

For those wanting to explore its menu, some of its highlights include burrito bowls, priced from £7.40, and toasted burritos from £8.40 each. There are also quesadilla stacks (£6.95) and tacos (£6.95) to choose from.

Founded by Dr Sam Price, a 21-year-old medical student at the time of its first store in Braddon, Canberra in 2005, Zambrero was created to celebrate Mexican food whilst also giving back to the community. To date, its Plate 4 Plate initiative has generated more than 80 million meals for people in need.

Last year, Zambrero celebrated the opening of its 300th store with a new location in Melbourne. It also has restaurants across the country as well as in New Zealand, the United States and in Ireland.

Zambrero is on 59 Cross Street, Manchester, M2 4JW. Opens 11am on Thursday (January 16).
