Metro trains were delayed on both lines on Monday morning after police were called to reports of a man acting “in an aggressive manner”.
Police were called to South Gosforth station at 6.30am on Monday morning, after Nexus reported an intoxicated man on board a carriage. The man is understood to have left the train before police arrived, and enquiries are under way to find him.
Gaps in service of up to 15 minutes remain on both the yellow and green lines.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At around 6.30am today (Monday), we received a report of a man acting in an aggressive manner on a train at South Gosforth Metro Station in Newcastle.
“Officers attended the scene, however the man had already left the area. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and locate the person involved.”
A Nexus spokesperson said: “A Metro train was held at South Gosforth station at 6.30am this morning, Monday 13 January, due to an intoxicated male on board the carriage. The police were called to deal with the incident.
“The train was back on the move after the male had been removed. This caused a 15 minute delay.
“The male left the train before officers arrived. They are now checking CCTV to pinpoint this individual.”
