Met Office weekend forecast for Liverpool as temperatures plunge below freezing

It follows a week of disruptive weather in Merseyside

Merseyside has faced freezing temperatures all week and this is set to continue over the weekend. The Met Office issued several weather warnings for snow and ice in the region which caused disruption to roads, schools, train services and flights.

This came after a rare amber warning was in place for much of last weekend after heavy snowfall and icy conditions. Tonight (January 10) is set to be another cold evening with a “hard frost and icy stretches forming overnight.”

According to the Met Office, it will remain dry with light winds, allowing freezing fog to develop in rural parts beneath clear skies and temperatures will be a minimum of -3C. On Saturday, it will be dry with some sunny spells, although freezing fog and low cloud may linger in rural parts.

Forecasters said it is will still be rather cold with light winds and icy patches forming into the evening. Maximum temperature 3C However, things look warmer next week.

On Sunday, there will be sunny spells but still rather cold, before turning milder next week. The Met Office forecast it will be windy and cloudy on Monday, with spells of rain, heavy at times, turning showery on Tuesday.

In Liverpool and the surrounding areas, Wednesday and Thursday are set to be a lot warmer than this week, with maximum temperatures reaching 12C. It is set to be cloudy with minimum rain.

And Met Office meteorologist Liam Eslick said: “It’s going to be another cold couple of days, and recovering into the early part of next week. Anywhere across the UK is likely to see those temperatures dipping below freezing and likely to see quite severe frost and ice to form overnight tonight.”
